Cortez is a 28-year-old socialist who made New York’s affordable housing crisis a focal point of her Democratic primary campaign. She defeated Crowley by a stunning 15 point margin in Tuesday’s primary.
Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District. The district covers Queens and parts of the Bronx.
Crowley raised $3.4 million for his safe Democratic seat and his biggest donors were the real estate industry.

House Candidate Jennifer Suidan Accused Of Embezzling $100,000 From Elected Official’s Campaign Account A Michigan House candidate is accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from another politician’s campaign funds. Jennifer Suidan  allegedly embezzled more than $100,000 from Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner’s campaign account. Meisner made the allegations at a  news conference from the  Goodman Acker  law firm. Suidan worked at the law firm and was fired because of the alleged embezzlement. She worked as a nonlawyer managing the campaign funds at the law firm for Meisner and other Democrats. The prominent suburban Detroit law firm handles primarily personal injury claims. Miqueli was  accused of embezzling $1 million  from his Bronx parish in 2015.
