FLORIDA COVID19 UPDATE: State To Tap $250 From CARES Act To Create Mortgage And Rental Assistance Fund The ongoing Florida COVID19 pandemic has forced the state of Florida to create a rental and mortgage assistance fund. The state will create the fund from $250 million the state received from the federal CARES Act.  Governor DeSantis made the announcement last week. DeSantis issued an executive order putting a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures in April. The moratorium is expected to end on Wednesday. The executive order gave homeowners and renters time in their homes if they can’t make their mortgage or rent payments due to the pandemic. However, it did not provide financial relief to renters and homeowners. As a result,  Florida landlords were already lining up  to evict people on July 1st before Memorial Day.  Read more at MFI-Miami

The CFPB accused SLS of taking illegal foreclosure actions against mortgage borrowers who were entitled to protection from foreclosure. The CFPB alleges SLS violated both the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and the CFPB’s mortgage servicing rules. The agency alleges Specialized Loan Servicing pursued foreclosure actions on a number of borrowers while they requested other loss mitigation options. In other words, SLS allegedly committed dual tracking. The CFPB’s  servicing rules  prohibit servicers from starting the foreclosure process after a borrower submits their loss mitigation application. Read more at MFI-Miami

The NYS foreclosure moratorium has no teeth and is as impendent as a Nevada Boxing Commissioner. As it turns out, Cuomo was pulling a Trump. He made it sound like when he approached lenders he  pulled a Rowdy Roddy Piper from  They Live . He then forced them to accept a moratorium. However, the mortgage moratorium was nothing more than a plea and a strong suggestion to lenders. Cuomo touted the moratorium by saying: If you are not working or working only part-time, we will have banks and financial institutions waive mortgage payments for 90 days. Read more at MFI-Miami

Restaurant Workers Beware! Trump Wants Your Tips!

Image
Attention Restaurant Workers! Mad King Trump Wants To Give Restaurant Owners Your Tips! “Mad King” Donald Trump wants to give your tips to his buddies! Restaurant workers who rely on tips to survive could receive a  massive pay cut . The Trump administration wants to take away your tips and put them in the pocket of the restaurant owner. The Trump Administration is proposing rescinding an Obama-era rule that stated tips are the property of the servers. Trump’s Labor Department wants to change the rule to say the restaurant owner is the owner of the tips. As a result, the administration’s proposal would allow restaurant owners to collect all the tips and do whatever they want with them. Thus, restaurant owners could keep diners in the dark and pocket all the tips for themselves.  This “reverse Robin Hood” scheme would take money out of the pockets of low-wage workers and give it to business owners. It is just one more example of “trickle-down” economic policy masquerading as pr...
